Here are 9 common injuries that golfers should watch out for.

1.1. Back pain When playing golf, the swinging motion (swing) can put a lot of pressure on the spine and muscles. At the same time, the bent posture when playing golf for a long time can cause back muscle spasms, leading to serious injuries. To limit these injuries, you should practice more stretching exercises and increase the flexibility of your back muscles.

1.2. Tendonitis in elbow

Tendonitis in the elbow is common among golfers. Golf elbow pain syndrome occurs when there is damage to the inner tendon area. These injuries increase as the player makes the swing.

Elbow pain 1.3. Rotating lightning  Shoulder rotator cuff injuries can result from the great stresses of the swing, hitting an obstacle such as a tree root, a rock, or overtraining. At the same time, the repetitive movements when playing golf can cause players to develop tendonitis, bursitis or torn shoulder muscles. The pain in the shoulder increases when the player swings or raises his arms above his head.

1.4. Wrist pain Continuous, fast-paced movements can lead to an injured wrist. The most common condition experienced by golfers is tendinitis, a swelling of the tendon.

1.5. Knee pain When starting to swing, the knee must be subjected to a great deal of tension to balance the axis of rotation of the hip. The intense force continuously acting on the knee for a long time will cause the ligaments to be damaged, torn, causing severe pain in the knee joint.

1.6. Hand and Finger Injuries Rapid and continuous movement while playing golf causes injury to the hands and fingers. The most common is tendinitis, fracture or deformity of the finger bone.

1.7. Neck Injury This type of injury is most common in golf beginners who are not used to sudden twists and turns. After a few hours of golf, the neck muscles can shorten, making the neck stiff and painful.

1.8. Foot and Ankle Injuries Foot injuries occur when a golfer loses balance with his foot, swings the wrong swing, or hits the ball on an uneven surface. Sprains, tendonitis of the ankle or metatarsal, and blisters of the foot are common injuries.

1.9. Hip Injuries The hip muscles are usually very flexible and can handle a lot of pressure. However, it is very susceptible to injury because of the series of twisting movements when playing golf. When performing these movements, the hip muscles are heavily dependent on pulling, flexing, and extension actions, and they are repeated in a row. Therefore, it requires the gluteal and adductor muscles to work closely throughout. It is these rotation and sliding effects that will damage the lower back and hip joints.

2. How to prevent injuries and improve golf performance

Most golf injuries in amateur or professional golfers come from poor swing technique, overtraining, and lack of physical fitness. To prevent golf injuries, golfers need to understand and correct weaknesses in their area by seeking advice from a sports medicine professional, including:

– Focus on warm-up: Before starting golf, do not skip a warm-up for at least 10 minutes to warm up your body and perform stretching exercises to improve range of motion. Take the right swing technique: Taking courses and understanding the swing mechanics behind the swing will help players prevent injury.

– Avoid overdoing: Relax and do a nice swing with a smooth swing tempo. Players should not exercise too much because it puts constant pressure on the joints and spine.  Choose the right club: It is important to ensure that your club is the right size and strength for each individual. Additionally, using proper lifting technique will help protect your back and shoulders when carrying a heavy bag.

– Choose the right shoes: Choosing the right shoes can help players avoid injuries while playing golf and improve their hitting technique. In addition, foot orthotics are also essential to improve balance for players with flat feet.
